Andreas Jäger is a prominent presenter and author. After completing his meteorology degree in Innsbruck, he embarked on a career in national radio and television. While there, he hosted several documentaries dedicated to weather and climate change. His new book, “Alpen in Fieber”, focuses on climate change in the Alps.

Suzanne Simard

Grow together: what we can learn from the mother tree

Suzanne Simard is a Professor of Forest Ecology at the University of British Columbia and the leader of The Mother Tree Project, which researches forest renewal practices that protect biodiversity against climate change. The main focus of her research is on the below ground fungal networks that connect trees and facilitate underground inter-tree communication and interaction.

Hans Grieshofer

The Forest Fiber Industry – Sustainable and Circular

Hans Grieshofer is Head of Department for Resource Policy at the Austrian Pulp and Paper Industry Association (Austropapier). The focus of his work is chairing working groups in the areas of wood, recycled paper and certification. He is also a member of the steering team in the Cooperation Platform Forest, Wood and Paper (FHP).

Who owns the forest? Vision and reality of reforestation.

Peter Mayer studied forestry at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) in Vienna, and political science at the Institute for Advanced Studies (IHS). He began his career with the Ministry of Life, the organization of the Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe, and in 2003, started as the executive director of the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO). He has also served as a lecturer in the master’s program for European forestry. Since 2010, Mr. Mayer has worked as the head of the Federal Research Center for Forests (BFW) in Austria. He is also a member of the GTZ advisory group "International Forest Policy" and chairman of the steering group of the Global Forest Expert Panels initiative within the framework of the Collaborative Partnership of Forests (CPF).

Brian Roth is an independent forest research consultant, based in Alberta, Canada. He has over 30 years of experience in North America working for private industry, government and academia advancing applied research in the areas of forest regeneration and silviculture. Brian holds a Doctorate from the University of Florida in Production Ecology, a master’s degree in Forest Science from Oregon State University and a bachelor’s degree in Forest Management from the University of Alberta. He currently directs the Forest Growth Organization of Western Canada (FGrOW) and volunteers on the board of directors for several non-profit forestry organizations including SeedTree in Nepal and the Maine Chapter of the American Chestnut Foundation.

Anna Treschow was a commercial lawyer at LRF Konsult before leading the Treschow Law Firm with a focus on commercial law. Today, Anna Treschow is the Policy Expert at the Federation of Swedish Family Forest Owners. She is also a lecturer at the Department of Real Estate Law at Lund University.

Tobias Fiebig has been working at Lieco, a leading supplier of seedlings and forestry services in German speaking countries, since 2019. Prior to that, he was a game keeper at various estates. Tobias has a strong understanding of silvicultural practices through his forestry studies in Sweden. The combination of biological and ecologic knowledge as well as silviculture build a sound foundation with space for personal development. Currently, he is participating in logistics and administration plus various innovative projects such as “How to become plastic free”.

Stefan Hunziker is a climate scientist. For the last four years, he has worked at the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research, as part of the ETH Zurich domain. Stefan’s research is focused on atmosphere-forest interactions, particularly on drought effects and on climate and forest monitoring.

Scot McGuire formed the consulting company MCS in 2017 with the mission to bring talented and driven people together to form innovative products and B2B/B2C solutions that enable positive and sustainable results. Mr. McGuire has more than 27 years of experience in the USA, EU and China as a General Manager, Sales Director, Project Manager and Product Development Specialist in different industries.  Currently, Scot has worked as a consultant, introducing TRICO® to the forest industry in the USA and Canada.

Living in harmony: Reforestation, regeneration & deer management in the future

Sabrina Dietz received her master’s degree in Applied Ecology at Hogskolen i Innlandet. Over the next four years she worked as a field technician at Alka Wildlife and then led a project at ByBi Norway. Sabrina returned to her studies as a research assistant at the University of Oxford before moving to the European Federation for Hunting and Conservation (FACE) as a Wildlife Policy Assistant. In 2020, she became the Wildlife Policy Officer at FACE.

Stig-Olof Holm is an associate professor at the Department of Ecology and Environmental Sciences at Umea University. His fields of expertise are sustainable forest management, wildlife biology and management, alpine ecology, ecosystems, ecology and biodiversity, agriculture, and animal welfare. He is also involved in a European research project which compares mixed tree species forests with tree monocultures with respect to different forest ecosystem services.

Florian Noll completed his bachelor’s degree in International Forest Ecosystem Management at the University of Applied Sciences Eberswalde. He then went on to pursue a master’s degree in Forestry at the University of British Colombia. Between 2010 and 2014, he worked as a logging engineer at Interfor and senior Engineer at Meridian Forest Services Ltd. As an abstractor, Florian collated and analyzed data on various aspects of timber evaluation, planning and appraisals, wildlife management, and forest planning. He now manages the Service Centre at the Bavarian State Forest Enterprise.

Uwe Sayer studied Forest Sciences at the University of Freiburg and earned his doctorate in Ecology, where his work was awarded the Camillo Schneider Prize. He has been working for Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Germany since 2000 and in 2002, he was appointed Managing Director. As part of his work, Uwe Sayer has steered the international offices through various mandates, including the European coordination of the national FSC representatives and, more recently, the representatives of the worldwide FSC organizations to the International FSC board.

Julia Hengl is the Specialist in Biological Development responsible for all Repellent projects at Kwizda Agro GmbH. Growing up on a family farm in Lower Austria, she learned all the practical aspects of agriculture and plant protection. During her bachelor's degree in Agricultural Sciences and subsequent master's degree in Phytomedicine at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU), she focused more on research and development. She has been with Kwizda Agro for the last three years. Her role is to manage the development of the repellent products for the agricultural and forestry portfolio.

Gary Jobling is the Product Manager responsible for Repellents as part of the New Tech group at Kwizda Agro GmbH. He has over 30 years of agricultural experience, working in a range of functions including trialing, technical support, sales and marketing. He has been with Kwizda Agro GmbH for the last two years. His role is to manage the long-term objectives of the Repellents team with their seed treatment and forestry portfolio.
